‘Stranger Things’: “War Is Coming” As Netflix Releases Season 4's First Trailer
Eleven lost her powers at the end of Stranger Things' third season, and they don't appear to have returned in the first trailer for the Netflix supernatural drama series' long-delayed fourth season.
"War is coming," the Mind Flayer warns in the trailer, which shows the chaos that Millie Bobby Brown's Eleven, Noah Schnapp's Will Byers, Finn Wolfhard's Mike Wheeler, Gaten Matarazzo's Dustin Henderson, and Caleb McLaughlin's Lucas Sinclair, as well as the rest of Hawkins, Indiana, will face in the upcoming season.
Promising that "every ending has a beginning" – a nod to the recent announcement that season five will be the show's final season – and depicting the cast attempting to be as normal as possible, their nemesis adds, "You've broken everything... your suffering is almost over."
At the end of Season 3, the heroes were fighting the Mind Flayer in the middle of the Starcourt Mall.
The third season, which premiered in July 2019, follows Joyce Byers, played by Winona Ryder, as she moves her sons, Charlie Heaton, Schnapp and Eleven, and Eleven, out of their Indiana town to start a new life. The final scene is set in the far eastern part of the Soviet Union, where guards are feeding a prisoner to an imprisoned Demogorgon — but "not the American."
Season four begins six months after the Battle of Starcourt, which terrorized and destroyed Hawkins. Our group of friends is struggling with the aftermath for the first time – and navigating the complexities of high school hasn't made things any easier. A new and horrifying supernatural threat emerges at this most vulnerable time, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, could finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.
The first volume of episodes will be released on May 27, followed by the second volume on July 1.
Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Joe Keery, Charlie Heaton, Sadie Sink, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, Cara Buono, and Brett Gelman return for Season 4.
Robert Englund will play Victor Creel, Jamie Campbell Bower will play Peter Ballard, Eduardo Franco will play Argyle, Joseph Quinn will play Eddie Munson, Sherman Augustus will play Lt. Colonel Sullivan, Mason Dye will play Jason Carver, Nikola Djuricko will play Yuri, Tom Wlaschiha will play Dmitri, Myles Truitt will play Patrick, Regina Ting Chen will play Ms. Kelly, Grace Van Dien will play Chrissy
During Deadline's Contenders Television panel, Matt Duffer stated, "Joyce and Byers family to have left at the end of season 3." They're in California – we've always wanted to have that 'E.T'-esque suburb aesthetic, which we finally got to do this year in the desert – Hopper is in Russia, and there's still a group in Hawkins. So we have these three storylines that are all connected and kind of intertwined, but they have very different tones."
The Duffer Brothers created Stranger Things, which is produced by Monkey Massacre Productions and 21 Laps Entertainment. The Duffer Brothers serve as executive producers, along with Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen of 21 Laps Entertainment, Iain Paterson, and others.
